2024 United States Presidential Election - The race to 270!

Fmr. Rep. Francesco McReary

Democratic Nominee

The race for the White House is heating up as President Marshall Carter seeks his next term, rivalled by the Democratic nominee, former U.S. Representative Francesco McReary.
Will the United States opt to re-elect Marshall Carter and Nick Johnson for the Republicans, or opt instead for a Democrat administration led by Francesco McReary and Mathias Dawson?

With several states in play and possible swings both to and from the Carter Administration, the election remains a toss-up! President Carter's personal popularity is helping, but a period of political gridlock in the Capitol has seen the GOP take a hit. Rep. McReary hasn't yet inspired or conducted a "shock and awe" campaign, but as the Democrats aim to create a mood for renewal, their ratings have started to go on the rise. Front of mind for many voters are gun rights, law and order, taxes, healthcare, infrastructure and jobs. Each candidate seeks to convince the American people that their vision is best for the future.

The Weazel Television Network has extended an offer to both the Republican and Democratic nominees to facilitate a debate, moderated by Weazel News, live in Washington D.C.
We are waiting to officially hear back from both the Carter and McReary campaigns, but spokesmen from both campaigns have indicated the candidates are in fact keen.

2024 United States Presidential Election - The race to 270!
Swing states and opinion polls - who's on track to win?!

By: Correspondent Isiko Narasumi

As U.S. President Marshall Carter and former U.S. Representative Francesco McReary face off in a 2024 showdown for the White House, we take a look at the general mood across the country, and how certain swing states are looking!

President Carter holds a commanding lead in what is proving to be a Republican stronghold, the State of Leonida, and is also ahead in North Yankton. At the same time, McReary currently has a stronghold over the State of San Andreas and the District of Columbia.

Battleground states currently in contention include North Yankton and Liberty. Carter currently leads in North Yankton, albeit by a slim margin of 53-47, while the State of Liberty is tied 50-50, with McReary closing in. However, in a surprising turn of events, the adjacent State of Alderney is 61-39 in favour of Marshall Carter and the GOP.

Who's the preferred U.S. President?

Opinion polls indicate that Marshall Carter is the preferred President of the United States, at 58-42 over his rival. Party preferences more broadly indicate a slight increase in support for the Democrats, who are currently leading, but resurgent Republicans seem to be coming back in the polls. Vice President Nick Johnson remains the preferred Vice President of the United States over the Democratic nominee, Mathias Dawson, at 55-45, albeit somewhat less known than his running mate, Marshall Carter.

Who is on track to win?!

Polling currently shows that on the current trajectory, the Democrats are on track to claiming 190 electoral votes. The Republicans currently remain on a straightforward pathway to 270, with Carter currently looking at some 300 votes. As it currently stands, Marshall Carter is on track to being re-elected as President of the United States for another term. However, the Democrats have gained ground.

Which states could matter most? Could a swing state decide this election?

Swing states are very much in play and could significantly influence who becomes the winning candidate. Alderney has seen the Republicans become resurgent and a contending force after a period of weakness in the state due to political gridlock. Issues with the Democrats have led to a popularity slump in what was considered a knife-edge state, especially thanks to the GOP seizing on the opportunity, ramping up advertising and campaign efforts, but with time still left in the campaign, anything could happen! However, again, Alderney has swung 61-39 to the GOP in historically blue-leaning territory! The State of Liberty remains a complete coin toss though, tied at 50-50!

North Yankton currently sits at 53-47 in favour of Marshall Carter and the GOP, but the McReary campaign has seen recent gains, narrowing the lead from 56-44, a gain for the Dems.

Are there any certainties?

D.C. will definitely be a Democrat win. San Andreas also remains deep blue and is unlikely to help the GOP. The Republicans are all but certain to win Leonida, especially with popular and soon-to-be outgoing Governor Santiago Alejandro likely to be elected to the United States Senate for the GOP. With Alejandro's term as Governor set to end, a gubernatorial election will also take place in Leonida. With Alejandro's personal popularity no longer being a factor, questions arise as to whether the state will stay red or turn blue on the gubernatorial level.

Will there be a debate?

In positive news, President Carter has accepted our invite to a Weazel News presidential debate! We await confirmation from Mr. McReary, the Democratic nominee. As the details, time and place are finalized, stay tuned for the Weazel News 2024 Presidential Debate!

WEAZEL TELEVISION NETWORK - DEBATE CONFIRMED
2024 United States Presidential Election - The race to 270!
Weazel Debate ACCEPTED by both Dem and GOP nominees!

By: Correspondent Isiko Narasumi

The 2024 showdown for the White House is firing up as President Marshall Carter and former U.S. Representative Francesco McReary are set to face off in what is likely to be a fiery presidential debate on the Weazel Television Network!

Carter, the incumbent U.S. President, and the Republican nominee accepted the debate offer a few days ago, while the Democratic nominee, former U.S. Representative Francesco McReary and his campaign accepted the offer this morning.

The debate could swing knife-edge battleground states one way or the other. All eyes will be on North Yankton, Liberty and Alderney. Despite the GOP's commanding lead in Alderney, this could be reversed by strong Democratic performance and as the President's popularity struggles to keep up the GOP's otherwise faltering momentum in the state.

When and where is the Presidential Debate?

As both the Democrat and Republican nominees have now accepted the debate, the details, time and place are set to be finalized. D.C. has been touted as a debate location, as have both stronghold and swing states such as San Andreas, Leonida, North Yankton and Liberty. Washington D.C. and Leonida appear at this stage to be the favourites. Stay tuned for the Weazel News 2024 Presidential Debate!

Who's the preferred U.S. President?

Opinion polls indicate that Marshall Carter still remains the preferred President, though now at only 54-46 over his rival. Party preferences more broadly indicate another increase in support for the Democrats, who are currently leading, but resurgent Republicans are still coming back in the polls. Nick Johnson remains the preferred Vice President over Mathias Dawson, albeit now on a slimmer margin at just 53-47.

How volatile are the swing states this election?

Swing states are highly volatile and could determine the next President of the United States. Alderney had swung 61-39 to the GOP in historically blue-leaning territory, more so because of the President than the party. That margin has now come back to 57-43 as the Democrats gain ground. The State of Liberty has turned a light shade of blue, now at 54-46 in favour of McReary and Dawson! With the GOP currently causing ruckus in the state's legislature, sources say that President Carter will be rushing back to the state in a bid to try and reverse the party's fortunes.

However, in good news for the President, North Yankton has gone back up to 55-45 in favour of Marshall Carter and the Republicans, with the McReary campaign's recent gains now proving to be short-lived. Sources suggest the Democratic campaign will be ramping up state-based efforts to stop the red wave.

WEAZEL TELEVISION NETWORK - GOP WIN DEBATES
2024 United States Presidential Election - The race to 270!
MARSHALL CARTER AND NICK JOHNSON WIN DEBATES!

By: Correspondent Isiko Narasumi

The 2024 showdown for the White House has reached a crescendo as President Marshall Carter and Vice President Nick Johnson faced off last night in Washington D.C. against their Democratic rivals, former U.S. Representative Francesco McReary and former Governor of the State of Liberty Mathias Dawson.

Carter, the incumbent U.S. President and Republican presidential nominee, and Johnson, the incumbent Vice President and Republican vice presidential nominee, were declared the winners of their respective debates, as opinion polls are now swinging back in favor of the GOP.

The debate is swinging knife-edge battleground states back to the Republicans. All eyes are on North Yankton, Liberty and Alderney. The GOP's fluctuating position in the state has returned to a commanding lead in Alderney of 61-39. Liberty is now deadlocked at 50-50, an impressive position for the Republicans in a traditionally blue state.

Key Moments: Presidential Debate

Firearm Legislation and Constitutional Rights

Pictured: Marshall Carter responding on firearms and the Constitution to Moderator Joseph Carhill.

Joseph Carhill (Moderator): Mr. McReary, you've spoken about gun ownership levels, which have increased under the Carter Administration. What will you do to drive down crime and what would the social programs you've spoken of, look like?

Francesco McReary: This is a President whose administration has seen some of the highest levels of gun ownership in recent years. More weapons on our streets mean more people are endangered. More weapons on our streets mean higher chances of weapons ending up in the wrong hands, whether through the black market or even seeing some of the kids in rougher neighbourhoods around our country ending up with weapons instead of into social programs to get them out of the life. That's what Mathias Dawson and I will do, we'll take funding from weapon programs and police munitions that the Republicans have funded, in fact, provided record funding for, and instead divert those into gold-standard rehabilitation programs, to drive those levels of crime down. We'll work with states, we'll provide ways out for these young children. We need that money to go into these programs, not into police arsenals where we see more people, including children, shot at. The President believes in reactive solutions to crime, such as heavily armed police, while we believe in pragmatic, proactive solutions, which prevent the crime from happening to begin with.

Isiko Narasumi (Moderator): Thank you, Mr. McReary. Mr. President, your opponent has often chastised you for increasing levels of gun ownership, making our streets more unsafe and your failure to implement federal firearm legislation is leading to more weapons on the street. What do you say in response to that?

Marshall Carter: Yeah, that's a fair question. My opponent loves talking about the level of guns on the streets, but he fails to also point out that national crime levels are in fact at an all-time LOW. More importantly, violent incidents are decreasing in number, and perhaps most importantly of all, the number of fatal shooting incidents are at the lowest point in the last FIFTEEN YEARS. He talks about weapons programs but doesn't want to get into how successful they've actually been. Since we launched the federal firearm qualifications program, we've seen far fewer firearm-related accidents in our country because gun owners are trained properly. Mr. McReary also seemingly refuses to discuss how the empowerment and funding of our police across the country have led to more criminals off the streets, which has especially been a problem in a number of Democrat-run states, after the whole "All Cops Are Bastards" and "Defund the Police" saga, supposedly "progressive movements" that have proven not to work. In the State of Leonida, led by a Republican Governor, the Vice City Police Department was provided additional state and federal funding, which as my opponent has said, we provided record police funding for, and crime rates went to an all-time low under the soon to be outgoing Governor Santiago Alejandro. Meanwhile, we had riots in the State of Liberty, so much so that we were forced to federalize and send in the Liberty State National Guard with crowd suppression gear because the police were overrun, exhausted, underfunded and unequipped to deal with concentrated levels of rioting in dense population centres, while the then-Governor Mathias Dawson, your running mate, was FAILING to do so. The LCPD was begging for the Alderney State Police to come down and help. That's how bad it was - asking another state to spare resources and personnel. It is because of these high-profile events that more law-abiding civilians, and might I emphasize "law-abiding civilians", have purchased firearms and become legal gun owners. They have exercised what is their constitutional right, one that my administration will always stand up for, to protect themselves and their families. The federal firearm legislation that Mr. McReary wants is a flawed model because it allows firearm seizures if involved in an incident, and fails to account for the constitutional rights to both firearm ownership and self-defence. We're open to firearm legislation, just as every state's entitled to its own laws. Also, I actually agree with my opponent that we do need better social programs and rehabilitation for young offenders. However, we're going to take a more pragmatic approach to these issues, as opposed to cutting one for the other.

Healthcare

Pictured: Francesco McReary answers a question by Moderator Isiko Narasumi on healthcare.

Isiko Narasumi (Moderator): Mr. McReary, you have touted the idea of full universal healthcare across the nation. This is projected to significantly increase the national debt, and as your opponents have said, cause long waiting times and excessive federal bureaucracy and regulation tying up people's healthcare. What do you have to say especially to voters with private insurance regarding the future of healthcare under a potential McReary Administration?

Francesco McReary: Thank you, Ms. Narasumi. We believe in free and full healthcare for all Americans, not just the wealthy. Under President Carter, we've seen significant funding going to police armouries and military arsenals, yet the health of our people continues to be neglected. We will begin to cut the outrageous levels of funding going into police and military and start to redirect some of that into a healthcare system for all Americans. We believe that insurance companies hiking prices and leaving people to suffer is wrong, which is why we will impose stricter regulations on price hikes in the healthcare industry. Private insurance will not suffer - we believe completely in the right to private health insurance, but what we can't allow is for our country's sick people to be ripped off and left to suffer if they can't pay up. The President is more worried about weapons and tax cuts. I understand people don't like paying more tax, nobody does. However, we do need to be willing to consider tax reform to fund a universal healthcare system as well as diverting certain funds from where they're currently going.

Joseph Cahill (Moderator): Thank you. President Carter, your response?

Marshall Carter: Yeah, thank you. Look, Vice President Johnson and I are not ideological hawks. We're about solutions, which is why we're open to some level of government involvement and assistance with healthcare. However, what Mr. McReary is talking about is hiking taxes to fund a universal healthcare system without also providing specifics on exactly what sort of medical procedures such a system would cover. Would Mr. McReary's universal healthcare system cover dental? Would it cover "gender affirmation"? These are important questions we need answers to. I don't imagine the average taxpayer, especially those who are already struggling as it is, taking too kindly to having to subsidize a personal choice that progressives, especially in the Democratic Party label "gender-affirming care". I'm sorry, we're just not going to entertain that kind of stupidity. I don't know why the Democratic leadership aren't trying to get the hard-left progressive wings of their party to cool their jets, maybe they're afraid of offending them, but that's a matter for the Democratic National Committee. Furthermore, while we can support some ideas pertaining to price gouging and access to medication, we're also opposed to overregulation of the health industry and to the health industry getting tied up in federal bureaucracy. Mr. McReary also talks about cutting funding from police and the military, something we are entirely opposed to because some of that funding actually goes specifically to medical resources for our law enforcement and military personnel. This way, medics and doctors, especially in the army are able to treat soldiers and veterans. Cutting funding means you're robbing Peter to pay Paul - we've provided the record funding into law enforcement and the military, not just for weaponry but for their care, so they can continue to do their jobs and protect our country. Subsidies for healthcare are something we are more than open to, as well as regulating Big Pharma when it comes to prescription drugs. We actually have some level of common ground here with the Democrats, but we believe our method is much more sustainable, pragmatic, fiscally responsible and doesn't result in another sector being underfunded.

Key Moments: Vice Presidential Debate

Nourishment and Food Provision Programs

Pictured: Vice President Nick Johnson answers a question by Moderator Isiko Narasumi on food provision.

Joseph Cahill (Moderator): Governor Dawson, you and Mr. McReary have spoken of government-funded and subsidized food provisions throughout the nation. Your pitch suggests that due to the policies of the Carter Administration, low-income earners and those struggling to get by, day after day, should have access to basic food necessities. What do you have to say especially to voters who may have concerns regarding the use of their taxpayer money towards further welfare under a potential McReary Administration?

Mathias Dawson: Thank you, Mr. Cahill. Francesco McReary and I believe that food is a necessity that everyone should be able to access, irrespective of their socioeconomic status. Under President Carter and Vice President Johnson, families with children are struggling to get by. Kids should be able to access free school lunches so that they don't suffer from health issues as a result of a lack of access to food. Low-income earners and those struggling to get by deserve access to food as a basic necessity, without having to make huge sacrifices to their already small pay packets by which they try to make ends meet, just to prevent themselves from starving. Some people sacrifice meals to save money just to get by. This isn't good enough. Under our plan, something we actually derived inspiration from a Republican, Senator Alfredo Spaghetto, and what the Senate has comically dubbed his "alfredo bill", a federal rollout of funding towards food to schools and low socio-economic neighbourhoods. We'll repeal or otherwise not extend the Carter tax cuts, and we'll use those funds, along with other funds that we can cut back on, for police and military, which have seen extremely high levels of funding over the course of this administration, and divert that into the people of our country who need it most.

Isiko Narasumi (Moderator): Thank you, Governor Dawson. Vice President Johnson?

Nick Johnson: Thanks, Ms. Narasumi. President Carter and I actually do embrace, to some extent, the ideas of Representative McReary and Governor Dawson, because as he said during the presidential debate the other day, neither he nor I are highly ideological. Sure, we have our differences with the Dems, and we lean towards social and fiscal conservatism, but that doesn't mean we refuse to be forward-thinking. However, just as the President said regarding healthcare, this is the same situation - robbing Peter to pay Paul. Our side doesn't believe in increasing welfare, but in dealing with the root causes of these affordability issues. We've done that through tax cuts, which have left more money in the pockets of all Americans, but especially the working class. We absolutely stand by the record funding into our police and military, which have seen our country become safer. We completely oppose and object to the idea of cutting funding from our police and military, because some of that funding actually goes towards food rations in the military as well. Food programs such as lunches for kids remain up to the states, though the federal government is open to providing additional funding to assist the states with those programs. Ultimately, this is an issue where we do share some common ground, but we believe the Democrats are embracing quite a socialist platform that does take more away from the working taxpayers of our country than is necessary. We've kept the budget tight, and despite that, provided record levels of funding for much of our country's civil and frontline services. So what will we do? We'll provide supplementary aid packages to state-managed and state-run food aid programs, and we'll support foodbanks and other non-for-profits where we sustainably can, but what we won't do is create an entirely new layer of federal bureaucracy and cut frontline services to do that. It's expensive, unsustainable, and results in unnecessary tax hikes, and neither the President nor I intend to go down that route.

Infrastructure

Pictured: Vice President Nick Johnson debates Governor Mathias Dawson on infrastructure.

Isiko Narasumi (Moderator): Governor Dawson, you and Mr. McReary have said that infrastructure is not meeting the standards of the United States in 2024 and that the Carter Administration is not investing in the future of the country. What would a McReary Administration do differently, and what sort of plans would we see around national infrastructure?

Mathias Dawson: Thank you, Ms. Narasumi. In their bid to overfund police, military, and civilian firearms programs, the Carter Administration has neglected the needs of our country. The EMTs and the paramedics, the firefighters, the mechanics - their places of work are old, run-down and in need of serious attention. Hospitals, fire stations, shipping ports, and in fact small businesses, the infrastructure is old and there is no federal assistance. This puts our country at risk of supply chain issues with shipping ports and warehouses. If elected as President, Francesco McReary will sign into law a bill that will allocate billions of dollars to infrastructure around the country, creating jobs for the construction and engineering industries, improving the conditions of our hospital workers, patients, medics, firefighters, and more! We'll stop funding guns for everyone across the nation and instead focus on the day-to-day needs of the American people.

Joseph Cahill (Moderator): Thank you, Governor Dawson. Vice President Johnson, your response?

Nick Johnson: Thanks, Mr. Cahill. It's really quite ironic that Governor Dawson claims we've neglected infrastructure around our country. President Carter and I are set to preside over the opening of a literally transformed Downtown Vice City, in the State of Leonida, where we've funded and constructed what is now known as the emergency services sector of Vice City. An entire new county hospital and an entire new fire station. The VCPD now have a brand new Downtown precinct as well! Vice City Customs auto shops across the city have seen significant upgrades, as have many private and public spaces, through both federal subsidies and public funding! Viceport has seen some significant upgrades with a brand new warehouse and loading dock opened, as well as an increase in shipping container capacity and a new fish market opening up due to our cutting of regulations and infrastructure packages that have seen a number of areas opened for business. Vice City and Leonida have been the most in need of infrastructure, and this administration has delivered.

Who's the preferred U.S. President?

Opinion polls indicate that Marshall Carter is now holding a commanding lead as the preferred President of the United States, now at 61-39 over rival Francesco McReary. Resurgent Republicans are still coming back in the polls as the GOP could be set to see some prominent wins, including outgoing Leonida Governor Santiago Alejandro likely to be elected to the Senate. Nick Johnson has surged ahead as the preferred Vice President over Mathias Dawson, now on a comfortable margin of 60-40. Polls show that the pragmatism of the GOP, embracing some forward-thinking ideas while remaining true to their values has appealed more to voters than the social plans and progressive movement of the Democrats. The willingness of the President and Vice President to deviate from ideology and focus on solutions has resonated with voters on both sides of the political spectrum.

Swing states - what's happening?!

Swing states have been highly volatile and could determine the next President of the United States. Alderney has again swung 61-39 to the Republicans in historically blue-leaning territory, albeit more so because of the President than the party. The State of Liberty is now deadlocked at 50-50, as the debate performances of the GOP candidates appeal to the voters!

In more good news for the President, North Yankton has consolidated its support for the GOP, now up to 58-42 in favour of the Republicans. Sources suggest the Democratic campaign is racing back to North Yankton in a significant but last-minute bid to ramp up efforts to stop the red wave and try to prevent any more gains for Marshall Carter and Nick Johnson.

However, that is proving difficult as the GOP appeals to the working class and the debate performances of the two Republican candidates only further reinforce their lead. President Carter is set to also visit North Yankton after he visits the states of Alderney and Liberty.

Who's in the lead?

It still remains too early to provide definitive results or call any states yet, however according to early polling, the State of Leonida is likely a Carter win. In the same way, on the other side of the country, San Andreas is likely to be won by McReary.

What do the polls say?

Opinion polls indicate that Marshall Carter still remains in the lead as the preferred President, an increase of 1 point to 62-38 over his rival. Party preferences more broadly indicate consistent support for the Democrats, who were leading, but the resurgency of the Republicans has narrowed the polls and flipped to a GOP lead, albeit a minor lead of 53-47. Nick Johnson remains the preferred Vice President over Mathias Dawson, now on 61-39. The pragmatism and solutions-based politics of the GOP nominees has increased their personal popularity, a sentiment not shared for the entire Republican party, but serves as some value-add for legislature gains too.

What about the swing states?!

Swing states are highly volatile and could determine the next President of the United States. Alderney has swung back 61-39 to the GOP in historically blue-leaning territory, more so because of the President than the party. The State of Liberty remains deadlocked at 50-50, a remarkable achievement in a traditionally blue state!

Our fellow Americans,

However, he's now declared a national emergency and is taking unprecedented action

In the latest development, Congress has authorized the deployment of the United States Armed Forces domestically. In a first, the U.S. Army will operate on U.S. soil in response to the emergency. Law enforcement has been on high alert, with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation actively tracking those who've called in the threats.

In a statement to the media, FBI Director Mark Stevens said that the Bureau remains on high alert and is working around the clock to ensure electoral integrity and the safety of everyone at any polling station in the country.

We're also made aware especially in the swing state of North Yankton which could determine the winner, the Special Agent in Charge of the North Yankton Field Office had pushed the panic button and 500 Agents were dispatched from Washington D.C.

What does this mean for the count? When will we know the election result?

Under protection by the military, vote counts have resumed with full transparency protocols in place to ensure the count's integrity.

The Weazel Television Network will continue to cover the race and report back on count delays, results and the ongoing situation!
