SAVLINE ROLEPLAY
MTA:SA RP Dev Fireside Chat
AUGUST 2ND, 2024

Welcome back to MTA SA

As we start this dev fireside chat, welcome back to the world of San Andreas. We are heading towards Savline 2.0.0 and a world where player creativity and intuition will define it. A server where scripts aren't separate from roleplay but one where they are intertwined and work together for an amazing roleplay experience.

I'm Badandy, the lead developer of the 2.0.0 version of the Savline MTA SA server. I joined the team earlier this year as a regular developer for the 1.0 server. As the months went by, it seemed necessary to look towards a better server and start the work. After planning and discussions, we settled on the Savline framework to handle the job of accomplishing our goals and desires. We are now in August with great progress and in the next fireside chat, we will show off some main features.

Development Philosophy

There are many ways to develop a server and instead of taking the same road as other SAMP or MTA SA servers, we are taking our own approach. We love roleplay and we believe that scripts can enhance and expand roleplay on a server if done right. We will not have pointless leveling or grindfests just for something the player to do. Every feature we do must tie into roleplay and other players in some way. Nothing exists in a vacuum and we have questions to answer for each feature.

How does it benefit the server as a whole?
How does it benefit the player?
Does it integrate well with roleplay? How?
Does it encourage player to player interaction (directly or indirectly)? How?

With these questions, we can help shape what features we have and don't need. As you suggest ideas and provide feedback, I highly recommend answering those questions to see if an idea fits.

We also want to make sure the player has a say in how they play and allow player creativity to flow into the server. For example, instead of your burger joint selling just a "Burger", why not spice up the item to be "Big Willy's Burger". The ability to rename items is one thing we want to allow, especially with businesses to allow immersion and add to the overall world. We will have much more to say about vehicles, objects, and player generated content in the future and how those can be used to create amazing roleplay scenarios.

Another major part of this is making sure the server is fun. It's a video game after all and we want to add features that are fun, especially features that are fun with friends or other players. Relax, roleplay, and have fun.

Timelines and Releases

As we approach the end of the summer, there are questions on when this will release. The release of 2.0.0 will happen in December 2024. A public test will happen at the end of November 2024. This initial release will have all the essentials we need for a successful launch that fit our vision and values. Sneak peeks and discussions will happen during these dev fireside chats.

Where we are heading

This is the first dev fireside chat but not the last. A new one will be released every other Friday (every two weeks) with updates and more discussion topics. On this topic, you can discuss this by responding below. You can also discuss this on Discord in #community-dev-chat under the appropriate topic. I hope as you read these and think of feedback and responses, you can feel cozy like you are near a fire and be in a world of imagination.

Please respond here or on Discord and give us feedback or questions. We will respond both here on the forums and on Discord.
